What Shipped This Week: Multi-Currency & Improved Ferries

3 min read

Multi-Currency Support

This week, I brought in multi-currency support so that Tripsdock can now just as easily be used by people in Europe, America, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Pick your currency in Group Settings and the trips you create will use that currency. Note that the platform fee to Tripsdock will always be in GBP though.

Multi-Night Crossings

The second fairly big update is to crossings/ferries. Up until now you could choose from a same-day crossing such as the channel ferry to Calais, or an overnight crossing, such as from Greece to Italy. However, right on my doorstep is a ferry from Portsmouth to Santander that takes two nights! Tripsdock now supports multi-night crossings, so whether it's down to Spain or a round the world trip, you can set up your trip here.

Previous Trip Count

You'll now see in the Members page of the group how many trips each member has attended. You can also update this with the number of trips they attended off-platform, i.e. before coming to Tripsdock. This is then shown in Room Assignment when you're putting people into their accommodation rooms, and also used by the Auto-Assign feature to default the more expensive/better rooms to the people with longer group tenure. You can still override and manually assign too.

Searchable Groups Directory

As with most features, my users drive a lot of what I focus on. In this case you can now search all the groups from the tripsdock.com homepage, making it easy to find a particular club and click through to it.

Itineraries

A while ago I brought in a feature to allow trip participants to email themselves their itinerary - what hotel when and so forth - or open a printable version. I've now added the ability for the Organiser to push an email to all participants with this itinerary in. It's a little tool to help reduce opportunities for confusion before and during trips, and reduce the workload for organisers.

And The Rest

Much of the rest of my time has been devoted to covering off smaller quality of life updates:

  • Each participant now has a unique randomly generated little avatar in place of the old 'initials in a circle' default.

  • The email sent when a trip starts now nudges participants in the direction of the Journal. This is the easily overlooked place where participants can share photos and do a little write-up of the trip.

  • Payment references have been much simplified whilst keeping them unique and now easier to read/use.

  • Various tooltips and renaming of badges to reduce opportunities for ambiguity and misunderstanding. This is ongoing, and if you notice any confusing bits of the site please do let me know!
